Of course cities are full of light during night, but there are houses also out in the forest, the mountains, the swamp and more "away from society" places where having few hours long night would be a huge issue.

I was meant to quote those saying about it being dark for 4 hours or so. but yes you are right, even without the street lamps, there will be lights from shops and other things like you will probably see cars go past.

wouldn't that add to the immersion though? you'd have to get a flashlight or use your vehicle for light at night.

You'll still have to do it, whether the night lasts for 30 minutes or an hour, or 6h. But if you decided to go hunting and night caught you off guard, walking around in pitch darkness for literally hours is just not fun. If on official servers night will be dark, but not pitch black, so you can see anything, you can at least find your way out. Hopefully day will shift into night slowly, so there still will semi-dark times, like evening, so the night itself doesn't have to be that long because you still have a long time of not full darkness.

It would be nice if we could setup a camp, lay out staring at the stars, listening to the wilderness or even talking to friends and/or listening to music.
