Is Verbal Communication Required?

Pardon me if this has already been asked, but I am wondering if the use of microphones or any form of speaking in real life to communicate in-game is set in this game. Is voice chat optional? Can we avoid it?

VOIP will be the main communication with in the game but there will be a text chat but the text chat will not be overly done like other MMORPG's

You can avoid it. There will be text chat aswell.

Or your character could just be a Mute? But i guess that would require a lot of hand signals or body movement, which i'm not sure how much independent movement Identity's going to have.
