  1. Besides, with that player average and almost nobody supporting Identity, there's not gonna be any extra income. So it will be up to the dev team to whether this should continue or not.

  2. It's not a matter of time guys. The important thing here is getting some sign of consistency. For example, they had to re-implement UI and that cause some trouble on release. So imagine in a year or two, there could be another problem like: "The driving physics module we adquired got deprecated and we had to buy another one". Even perhaps the game you're currently can heavily change, so there's no reason to play it if you don't like it. Don't be a tester. you ain't getting paid for that.

A lot of it is there but that video was from the old UI and so a lot of the things broke as the old UI was discontinued and so they couldnt update it no longer with the latest UE updates. This caused them to remake the UI with a different software.

So basically most of the problems that Identity has is because of the migration to other UI. Feels bad man. Was a free UI software the previous one?

  4. So many of you remember this video:

Almost 8 months ago. If you want to take a moment and see what he could actually do, then you'll realize that that version is not any different from the one you guys are playing right now. So what happened? Devs stopped working or it was all server-side code from there to now? I'm just asking this because it makes me think that Aslyum's work is pretty inconsistent.

However, on a more positive thought, they might have worked on UI which doesn't show up on that video. It seems then that UI was such a big deal so they couldn't take care of bugs that had 8 months ago. Do you guys know which library are they using for UI?

It is much more realistic when players and observers are expected to ensure whether any of the players are cheating. Hence, the reason as to why the current chess model is formed in such a manner. In reality, a human being is capable of putting a chess piece on any square-inch of the board. However, other human beings are expected to identify whether it was a valid or invalid move.

Fair argument, I'll take it. Although I believe there should be a 8x8 matrix so a piece can't be in the between of two squares.

  6. So I just have seen PsiSyn "playing chess" but actually he can move anywhere he wants. You can even move a piece in between two squares. Is it that hard to do a matrix of 8x8 over the chess texture so you can check the position that the player wants to move in and tell if it is a legal move or not? CS101.

Good games like firewatch or subsistence are created by single person, scum by about 15 peoples, without any funding, just in free time after irl work, talent is what count not number of devs, especially when it coming to so tiny bit of work like TS.

So it has been proven that the team has no experience in game development. Now with 4 years you can have more than enough time to learn how to use UE4 system and somehow develop a decent Town Square module. Maybe from now major updates will come basing on that last statement.

I do understand how you feel, I feel it's a slight overreaction though, it's not the full game, it's a testing server.. people are acting like this is the final cut and that everything is currently present.. give them time.

What I believe is that today you can only defend the project,  because there's no game so far. Now suppose that  Identity was released without any major bugs. Then we would have the "glorified social game" we were expecting. I believe some people (me included) got disappointed by the fact that they couldn't even get a social game right. As a programmer, I feel they got major bugs that won't be fixed in 2018.

So I agree patience is key and honestly, if the team can still work hard despite not receiving a single dollar from now on, it's alright for me.

The real question is: how much time will they keep on going without cash coming from players? Because most of us will not invest on this game unless they show something real. Personally, I was expecting an economy system, civilians jobs, buy/sell within players, a true real estate system, and so on. Not even asking for the other two modules to come out. Just a serious RP module. No need of gigantic features. Although I would like a decent map. Even gmod darkRP got bigger maps lol. "Limitless world"

    2. The Devs entire livelihoods depend on this going well. Sure, they made a ton of cash, but they've been using it for this game. We're seeing content, and that has to come from somewhere. We know they're paying people and have a team. They didn't take the money and go golfing. If this was a scam, then the funds would stop coming once everyone caught on. You can't fool people forever. Putting it on Steam was the exact moment this couldn' be a sham anymore. We'd realize it was fake the moment we got to play, then money would stop coming. it this wasn't real then steam would never be involved. If they dangled it above us, then I'd be more inclined to believe it wasn't really what they said it was. Their careers would be over if they messed with all of us.

Maybe this team wasn't capable of handling such a project. So either you are correct and they wasted the money in useless stuff and hiring freelancer programmers who appear to fail on doing something solid, or perhaps they grabbed most of the cash for themselves and kept just a little to mantain Identity.

Let's think on the future, consider that right now Aslyum needs a fresh new team of developers/designers in order to change what they have done and refactor (and repair) most of the current work. First of all, can they afford that change? Would any game programmer/art designer join up with a low salary?

In my opinion, there's no turning back. But as I have said on another thread, they have a few options: use that cash for maintaining their lives while studying CS or game programming, merge with a studio, focus on Arma3/GTA V server or shut everything down.

  10. A game like this can't be made by beginners. Perhaps they thought UE4 would do the job but the true is that when it starts to scale up, it gets harder and harder. And at that moment, you need someone with experience, someone who have already created a videogame on that system. Not even mentioning a guy who specifically takes care of networking code.

Here are my suggestions, of course it's an opinion:

    1) You did a great KS campaign. Somehow, you demostrated us how passionate you are about this project. Nonetheless, the team hasn't the skills for making it. Why not merging with a gaming studio?

    2) Go and learn UE4 from scratch. Or go to college and study CS. Maybe you guys skipped lots of important concepts and tried to start a game without programming experience.

    3) Shut this down and wait until Arma 4 comes out or work on designing a roleplay server on GTA V.

Personally, I would go with (3). Of course, you can decide to stay with the main plan:

    4) The game is unfinished, but magically someday it will be the game we all want. So "stop with the negative comments". O.o

I wonder if Steam can remove this game from the list...

  11. What makes me sad is that this game has shown that no one on the team has a solid understanding of UE4 system. It's a shame. Almost nothing in the game was done well. It doesn't matter if it's a sandbox game where you have to make lots of content. At least do one thing correctly. Why should be keep waiting? 4 years of development and there's nothing impressive to do. I prefer to follow The Sims online project. :D

Good luck with those refunds! The reason I didn't spend any money on this game is because I watched many of their live streams plus reading all the anouncements and realised that they never showed any gameplay content nor game mechanics. The aparment video gave some hope but nothing was shown after that.

  12. Considering that they told us that Identity's release is in Steam's hands, why don't we report the game and comment something like "Hey we can't still download the game despite the fact it stated to be out like 6 hours ago".

I want some Valve moderator being involved on this because if it's not Steam's fault, they should remove the game from the list.

God this company can't do a thing right at all it seems

Is this a company? Let's begin with that. The funniest thing is watching streamers waiting for Identity to come out.

I don't know man, just show me at least a live stream of Aslyum's team being desperate for trying to make the final build. This is a complete joke right now.

Fact is, Kickstarter started in 2015, and development started around that time, which means it's about 3 years in development.

I wasn't there at that time though, I only pledged back at the end of 2016, joined forum on 2017, and started being active in 2018.

So logically, it took some time to settle in. I almost forgot that KS project started in 2015, I remember reading one post around Q4 2014. Either way, the thing that I feel Aslyum did wrong was priorities. But that's a really subjective opinion. I would have preferred to see some gameplay content rather than design stuff and character customization. Like economy, legal organizations. I remember the first time I heard about Town Square, I thought it would contain like a "civilian pack roleplay" which would have been nice.

It's not even beta... But more like an early development sort of like alpha..

Okay so the truth is that Identity's development didn't begin in 2014. Case closed. I'm actually glad to hear that. I was worried about what you have done in 4 years. But if this was like 1 or 2 years job, then it's not that bad. I will still keep an eye on this game although Town Square won't provide gameplay.

You, nor I have actually gone into the studio and looked at what's been made so far. Then why are you making assumptions? These guys are a new development team but not new to developing. Some of these Early Access Alpha titles that come out never end up being finished because they're created by a team that's never developed anything and don't have the drive or determination to see it through. I have no reason to believe these devs won't follow through with their promises/goals.

My current assumption is that this game's development began in 2017. And I'm glad you believe this team isn't new on game developing. I would like to ask you if you can show me any dev blog in which they explain something in regards to game mechanics (I'm being serious).

    23 hours ago, PrimusPalus said:

Seems to me that people need to relax and sit back and wait to see what happens. I don't think the devs have given anyone here a reason to be concerned. If you're that hugely concerned over the process, ask for a refund and come back later when more of it is released. You coming here complaining, or challenging them isn't going to make anything better. I promise you.

I heard from lot of places that refunds aren't accepted anymore. Many people already have requested and didn't get it. But that's out of topic.

There are no jobs until the beta, neither will there be an economy system until the beta. you set your own goal in identity, in the end it is a roleplay game, you cant win.

there are always systems in place, in the end a roleplaying game without any sort of system whatsoever wont be very functional.

I appreciate your answer, kind of helps but right now I just hear promises.

So unless a solid RP community joins Identity, it'll be hard to work on your own goals. Sometimes a system helps to demostrante you're close to archieve those goals. Otherwise, it's the same to build a Discord channel and say "Welcome! This channel is about roleplaying based on a real life world. There're different voice chats representing each part of the city. There are several rules so you can do whatever you want as long as you don't break those. Some channels are private, meaning you can join them only if you have the permission to (a private building). Each name tag represents your current job, faction, etc..By having that, people can either recognize you as your partner or something else."

I guess that would be funnier to try until Identity releases the whole package.

No I never said they have had 25 people working on the game over the 4 years, it was more like 3 people for 1 year, and then grew a little on the second and more up till now. The module was re-done 3 times in total I believe and that alone caused disruptions through development.

Alright, now I get. The game's development didn't start in 2014 but more like in 2017. Otherwise, it couldn't have any sense based on the features that it's offering. Still, I can't understand how the gameplay would look like on this first module. Suppose the following:

*) I pay $30 bucks for playing the town square module.

*) On November 30th, I decide to install and join the game.

*) After spending 15 minutes on character creation and being happy about all the choices it offers, I spawn on the main park.

*) Wandering around, checking all the possibilities Identity gives to me, I eventually find out many bots selling me stuff.

*) But I have no cash, so I can't buy anything. Then, I try to look for a job like I would do on any other roleplay game (and in real life aswell lol).

So that would be ~1 hour of gameplay, now my doubts are:

    *) Where can I find a job?

*) How will the economy work?

*) Does the game contain any goals?

*) It's just all imagination or there will be a system which would assist us?

  19. Yes I know, I didn't want to argue the job of these few developers because if I were them, I wouldn't have got the job done with that amount of partners. But well, I can say now that these kind of games can't be developed by a small group.

I mean, you've made some good announcements in regards to features that will allow us to do roleplay: corporations, gangs and prison. However, none of these will be available on Town Square, right? If so, then it would be a waste of time to buy the game. I prefer to spend $60 dollars on a game I know it will contain roleplay features.

I hope you guys can make it, but humans have the horrible tendency to make estimations. So if this module took almost 4 years, I can only imagine the other features to be released on 2023. And nothing was said about vehicles. Back to GTA:V MP, I guess hehe.

  20. I've been following this project since its Kickstarter launch but I decided not to pay a dollar despite being a RP fan. I prefer waiting to see a solid project with some real announcements and not just designs. Right now, the module looks like a chess + sims buying mode + social style game. No clue how is this gonna be a roleplay videogame.

    So this is my question:

How many developers are working right now on game mechanics, gameplay and networking? I know that I'll probably get no answer but just giving a try.

I believe that they have only one making all the job which would justify why this game has no mechanics at all. Movement looks too similar (probably identical) to UE4 T-person project, no driving still, really few animations, almost no interaction that would imply complex collisions like shooting, fighting, etc...So it shows that this one programmer can't handle all this work or it's not even a programmer (that would be hilarious lol). And a big part of this project was built by programmers who already left the team. Not gonna guess the reason though.

I would recommend to everyone that when you're donating on an unreleased videogame, try to look up for the team that is working on it. Aslyum is kind of a designing team. All they show is their artwork, which I kind of like but it's not what they have promised. But well, sometimes a simple video can do the magic to convince us.
