No OOC means more roleplay (phoning, meetings, instead of just writing OOC "yo where you at") see what I mean?

Depending on the rules of the server, this could be considered metagaming. That's a bannable offense in most serious GMOD servers and I hope it is in Identity, too. As Rem said above, turning OOC off isn't going to keep them from doing that, they have other methods and if people want to do it then they'll do it regardless of whether OOC is on or not. IMO it should be at the very least set to a high interval so that the same person isn't constantly spamming chat - if it's not turned off altogether.

There's also most  likely going to be OOC in voice too. Since unfortunately voice is going to be enabled on the official servers, I've no doubt people are going to go off topic (and the trolls will of course be ridiculous) but that's something that can be handled by admins/mods. Personally I always found voice immersion breaking and would much rather sit and enjoy the calm, slow-paced back and forth via typing. I can't speak for everyone, but a 14 year old male RPing as a 20+ something female talking to you over voice chat isn't something that I find helps me keep my head in the RP.

a gmod mod? nah, will end like darkrp

It's serious RP, and staff (including myself) intend to keep it that way. I understand your misgivings though, and in the wrong hands I've seen really great servers slip and die, so I've definitely been there. But a lot has been invested in getting it going so, I have faith everyone involved will do their best to make it work.

And hopefully I won't eat those words later.

  3. Are there any serious rp servers like this that don't require teamspeak? I'm not a big fan of in-game voice (female speaking for a male character is as bad and immersion breaking as listening to an 11 year old shouting expletives about my mother while he shoots you in the face without RP). It doesn't even have to be Arma... Just anythin serious cityRPish

Yes, the highest building I imagine will be the free hotel/apartment that all new players will get free.

After that, I'm sure there will be other very large buildings as there will be cities. Along with that, it would be odd if there wasn't large buildings. I don't know any city that doesn't have at least a 5 story, and those are extremely small towns. With that, people need offices because players call for help, as well as buisness for telemarketers.

Aside.that, there might be other apartment buildings in which each floor is its own room, so really, to be logical and to spread players around the map, it's only expected that there are more hotels, motels, and offices for whatever purpose other players might use them for whether it be interviews or studio apartments, luxery rooms like acupunture and fast food spots.

Be creative and sometimes you can get your own answer. But if not, the mighty NutButter shall assist!

I hope I helped, please PM me for any other questions or search for the topic your after. I don't recall hearing this posted so I figured I'd rescue you (: haha

I didn't know a free starter home was a thing, so thanks!

  5. While I think being aggressive is the worst way to go about it, I agree that, at least those who paid, are entitled to something. It doesn't mean you have no patience or don't understand how long it takes to make a game, it's simply wanting reassurance that they're actually working on it and haven't run off with your money. And as well intentioned as the users are who say don't worry, give it time - well no offense, but if you're not in any way associated with the game, you can't know what's really going on/whether the devs have given up.

I don't think it's wrong to ask for updates, especially when they were promised. I don't even care if they're videos, I just want to know I didn't waste my money, and I'm not even one who got in from the ground so I can imagine how Kickstarter backers feel.

  6. If you are looking for a new server to play on and enjoy serious roleplay, and are a fan of the Bioshock series, head to afterflash.net

A new BioshockRP is being created, with a custom map and props, and will follow the lore of the original Bioshock. Set in 1956, Plasmids and ADAM are just starting to make their way into the market. Become addicted, start your own business or work for Ryan or Fontaine. There's plenty of opportunity, so check it out.

  7. As someone who was a medic on a serious RP server, I can tell you it's really difficult to get people to participate in medRP. I would say 1/10 actually did it because they enjoyed it, and the others only because it was in the rules that they had to. And even then it was only ever gunshot or shrapnel wounds, very rarely did anyone RP having a cold or serious injury other than a bullet wound.

I was hoping to continue in Identity with that character, but skewed it a bit so that she will be a physical therapist, so I don't have to rely on others RPing getting sick, because that sorta thing is very niche, and not everyone is into it. And it's not something you can force, either.

But yeah, I'd love to see a deep level of medical roleplay, not just from medical staff, but other characters getting wounded/sick. I just don't expect it.

  8. Well even if you don't mourn NLR deaths, you could still RP random ones like a grandparent or something like that. And then if anyone ever dies perma the option would be there. So yeah as morbid as it's going to sound, hopefully this will be something someone does.

And now I want to make an undertaker character, buy a plot of land, and start a funeral home and cemetary. Can you even get land in the game?

  9. My main issue is the crime to "normal" jobs ratio. Coming from GMod I know how often the mafia/BMD/etc. factions are chosen over chef or creating your own job as a civilian, and I hope it's the opposite with Identity and there's a healthy mix, if not more "normal" jobs than crime. Not that I expect there to be no crime, I just want to actually roleplay something other than being mugged or being taken hostage.

  10. I hope there's not too much focus on illegal things. I know people enjoy being mafia and drug dealers and all that, and that's fine. But there needs to be a mix of crime and law/non-illegal jobs like businesses and arts, in order to keep things interesting. Otherwise it's just a paid version of Garry's Mod's darkRP.

  11. Most likely I'll be porting over my character(s) from another server. The server being a military RP so the guy is a Lieutenant, but since I'll be having him "retire" and since there's no military in Identity, I've decided to open up a little specialty restaurant. Though I know it'll probably take quite a bit of time to gather all the resources and funds needed for that, so most likely he'll get a job doing something else in the mean time. Depending on how many characters we're allowed, I have a journalist, medic, and someone with interest in fishing, so those are also options.

  12. As someone who is a part of a couple of Garry's Mod RP communities (both serious and semi-serious) who has amassed quite a bit of money/items on each server, if this game lives up to what I've seen in my short 30 minutes of looking over the forums, I will gladly start over from scratch and never look back.

With one of the communities hooked up to life support and the other not being as RP based as it could be, I've been looking for a replacement and Identity could literally be my RP Holy Grail. I hope it is.
