This is actually a huge issue, to be honest. This game is marketing itself as being able to do "anything that you could do in real life," so I find the fact that identifying as a gender outside of male or female isn't possible and "likely won't be possible" to be extremely problematic. Even when the creators were asked simply if male characters could wear female clothing, they said this feature likely "won't make it into Identity before launch. Possibly not at all." This is pretty shitty, considering you can fucking browse Facebook on a simulated laptop in your apartment, or literally anything else, but male-identifying characters can't wear heels??

I was surprised by how amazing the graphics were in the trailer until it came to the characters, so I really hope character expression/clothing is not just an afterthought. I'd like to be able to build my character's body and gender expression to reflect my own irl. Erasing the existence of queer identities in the game--and further, being apathetic to concerns around it--is really making me kinda wish I didn't spend my money on this already. Learning about this game made me REALLY excited, but then I was signing up and was prompted with "male or female."

SUGGESTION: Listen to the people paying money to fund this project and incorporate queer identities into the character creation and expression aspects of the game.

Additionally, after scrolling through some of these forum topics and realizing what this community is like, I'd like to add that I don't need any greasy 4chan neckbeards coming in here to call me an SJW or whatever. I'm literally just a queer person asking for equal treatment by the same game you want to enjoy so that we can be who we want in the game. The creators were saying in the trailer that you could play as anyone you want, so I don't see why I can't play the game as a non-binary person.

Hey @cole97,

I believe that this is wanted by a few already but unfortunately a lot of people want so many different things that not everything can be done in the game, well especially before the release of the full game. Some sacrifices are made for better sacrifices and some limitations on what we can do is upon the concern of what the devs can do. They said maybe in the future but not before the release of the game and so it is a maybe and that is unfortunate but if there is not so many people such like yourself wanting such a feature it might not even be worth doing that extra work big or small to satisfy the needs of the few and arguably spending more money on the things which are not urgently needed.

I can say, you will have to wait and see, but most of this may be my opinion but it does count to a lot of variables on such matters. (PS it would add some interesting things / RP to see.)

Kind regards,

-LuckyDuck.

I agree with @cole97 that it is a pity for a man not to be able to wear all types of clothes, both masculine and feminine, because it would be necessary that each person can personalize his avatar according to his preferences and Its personality.

But I also know that it takes a lot of work for developers to adapt all feminin clothes to men, and vice versa ..

As @LuckyDuck said, it is not impossible that this changes! It may be a bit early for that, but I really hope you will find it fun anyway !

I am in favor of this as well.

On a semi-related note, I hope men have a variety of hairstyles than include long hair. Something that could serve as a gender thing but moreso i want it because I like the Jackie Estacado look from The Darkness.

i'd like to add that the distinction between male and female bodies being their body proportions/size is really weird. i would personally be fine playing as one of the "female" body types as long as it had a flat chest. but i feel like the clothes should be adaptable to different body types in the first place.

I feel like this suggestion, if implemented, will not only tremendously add to character development but promote diversity characterized by the individuals that play and how we portray ourselves as individuals in the provided environment, which is something the dev team has emphasized as being one of their utmost prominent goals.

In short, it would be a shame if this feature is not met by the first module release.

@cole97 Although you're considering withdrawing from your initial donation, it is probably fair to mention we are talking about a very small dev team with a rather restricted budget. Games like GTA, Battlefield, and other significant brands cost tens of millions if not more than a hundred million to make! It's insane this tiny team of highly skilled devs have been able to accomplish so much in such a little amount of time and on their arguably rather feeble budget!

However don't let me get in your way, if you're comfortable waiting for the initial module release to support the game then it's definitely understandable.

Not all customisation's will even be in by the first module, they said that all customisation's will be in the game by full release and that is why progress in the Beta will be wiped for full release because the devs don't want anyone to miss out the full potential of customisation's.

I support this. It's kinda mindblowing to me the devs aren't making all clothing/hairstyles fit on all player models to begin with. It seems like at this point, that should be a given, though I know gamer culture can be slow to let go of its more regressive tendencies.

As far as profile options go, even if they stick with just "male" and "female" character models, it wouldn't be too difficult to offer male, female, other, and refer not to disclose as descriptive options.

While doubtless some of these charming folks making negative commentary here might get upset, I think they'll find there'd be nothing stopping them from choosing both a male character model and description. Why, they could even choose not to wear dresses, if that's their cup of tea! Of course, some of them might say other players not conforming strictly to binary gender roles breaks their immersion, to which I have a simple reply - get out more.

i prefer not as that would double the time to create the clothing thus delaying the town square module further. as LuckyDuck said it will most likely be put in after town square releases

There isn't a such thing as genders other then male or female, you mus be retarded to think that. It is very easy or you have a dick and are a man or you have a vagina and are a female.

Yea, that's to be expected, however in a release that's focused around getting in and customizing your character to your liking you'd think a majority of character customization will be implemented. :)

They will be adding customisation's as they go I believe and a lot of them will be at beta and then full release.

There are two genders. These are defined by whether you have a XX or XY chromosomes. That's not me being a bigot, that's just biology love.

This is why this game has either a "Male" or "female" option when creating a character.

y'all are conflating sex with gender and to be honest i didn't expect anything else from a gaming community.

no, that's not biology, that's you regurgitating false ideas of gender identity. your sex assigned at birth is determined by your chromosomes (aside from intersex people), and your gender is how you identify, be that as a man or a woman or something else, and has absolutely nothing to do with your genitalia.

i'm really sorry if that's too much science for you to handle, despite this being an extremely basic biological and psychological concept. but the communities you exist in that egg on your tired "i identify as..." and "safe space" jokes will probably never allow you to stop being bigoted.

at this point i'm not losing interest in the game because of the lacking gender expression features, i'm losing interest because this community (like most online gaming communities) is so fucking saturated with ugly old white men who make fun of trans people to feel better about their receding hairlines.

i'm pretty new to this type of online game, but would it be possible to form a server/community that specifically blacklisted bigots? lmao

because i am fresh out of spoons to have to prove my fucking gender to someone named "the orgazoid" whose main goal in this game is to spearhead an escorting service lmao

To be more specific, there are no less than five different factors that determine sex - chromosomes, genitalia, gonads, hormone profile, and secondary sex characteristics. None of them fall strictly into "male/female" in every single person. The popular conception of sex as a clear binary is a gross oversimplification. I could go into more detail, but frankly I don't get the feeling that actual facts are of interest to most of the people posting their objections in this thread. For those who would genuinely like to learn more, there is always Google or asking nicely.

I have to agree that I'm rapidly losing interest in this game because of the community. Community is what makes or breaks an RPG, and no amount of shiny graphics or awesome gameplay can save you from some entitled dudebros who think it's funny to tear everyone else down.

Fine, then when they ask you if you want to be male or female they are asking you what "sex" you want to be.

" so I find the fact that identifying as a gender outside of male or female isn't possible and "likely won't be possible" to be extremely problematic ".

You've confused your own terms. They are asking you what sex your character will be "Born" as. As far as your gender goes, it's as simple as saying to others "I am a non-binary e.t.c." in game and there that's your gender, so they haven't really excluded it.

Sex: Your genes define this

Gender: You define this.

Not much more than that.
