Well. . . I figured this would happen. Another poll for everyone.

Another delay.

  1. 1. Do you still trust the devs after they seriously pushed back almost every release date they ever said (including videos)?

    • I do not trust the devs. They honestly don't seem to care that we waited this long for nothing.
      16
    • I do not trust the devs. After the first delay I was a little upset, but I was willing to wait if that meant a completed module. But now, this is just terrible.
      14
    • They lost a lot of my trust after this new delay, but I'm willing to still trust them.
      38
    • I still trust the devs. Sure it's ANOTHER delay, but it'll get finished once it's ready.
      53
  2. 2. Are the devs lying to us about their progress?

    • Yes, the devs are just trying to tell us what we want to hear, but their not actually following through with it.
      22
    • The devs might not be telling us the whole truth. So yes they might be lying, but it's for the greater good.
      63
    • No the devs are not lying to us.
      36
  3. 3. So now what?

    • I want a refund. This game is never going to come out any time soon.
      15
    • I will stick with the game only because I invested my money into it and don't want to let it go to waste.
      21
    • I still fully support the game. Nothing changed for me.
      24
    • I support the game, but the devs need to give us more details on the delays and keep us updated more.

Here we all meet again. It's been some time, but I kept with the media. So, let's get to it then. This is my opinion, you don't have to share it, but at least respect it.

Here we are again. Town Square module gets delayed AGAIN with no good reasons why. There has to be a point where even the die hard fans of this game have to admit that this is just bad. When they released an alright video that really didn't show much and what it did show was old and unfinished work the community went crazy. When the devs pushed back the release date of the module people were not happy, but willing to wait for a fully completed module. Now, months later than the original release date the module is being pushed back even further. The devs shouldn't be even thinking about an "official release date" if they can't even release a solid good video. Mentioning videos, weren't the devs supposed to drop a new video that shows the Town Square Module? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they said in the last dev blog they'll release a video to compensate for the first delay. Which still hasn't even came out yet. So what's the deal? Here comes my opinion, the devs got too excited and gave out an "official release date" which they could never provide evidence that it could be done within that time frame. They realize they were not gonna come close to getting it done for that launch date so they pushed it back a month.

Why would they push it back only a month if the game needed so much more work? The answer is this: They wanted to keep the positivity going with the fans so they pushed it back just a month because everyone can deal with a month. Now if they came out and said "Hey guys, the module still needs a lot more work and we underestimated it. So to assure the module gets completed with no problems were delaying the launch for a few months". That sounds a lot better  until the last sentence, " a few months". I don't know about you, but one months sounds a lot better than a few months and I wouldn't oppose it. So here we are again. The devs said they can get the module ready in a month, but in reality they knew very well it couldn't be done. So they pushed it back another month. You're probably wondering "Where's the evidence?". So here it is:

http://www.identityrpg.com/info/modules/townsquare/

Depending on the date you look at this it might be different than the one I'm talking about. If you scroll all the way down to the Asylum Task Tracker. I'm skipping the Bug Tracker info.

Art

The 2D graphics is finished.

Animations: 1 in progress and 2 completed.

Character Art: 1 New.

Environment: 5 In progress and only 1 completed.

Props: 1 finished.

Technical Art: 8 new and 5 finished.

UI and UX: 1 in progress and 2 completed.

Programming

Gameplay: 8 new, 1 finished, 1 in testing, and 1 in progress.

Systems: 4 new and 1 in testing.

User Interface: 6 new, 5 in progress, and 3 completed.

So after first looking at it I was very shocked. I mean look at it. The devs had the beginning of the announcement date for the Town Square Module (back in 2017) to the first delay. They were never ready for the first Official Launch Date even if they wanted to be. Facts speak for themselves and what I see here is a lot of "New" and "In Progress" tasks that yes are based off of April 19, 2018, but still shouldn't outnumber the completed tasks at this point like they do. Having just got clarification these tasks are the ones remaining since  April 19, 2018.  So they made a lot more progress than displayed (they really should show the tasks completed since the first delay, since that is what we want to know. How much work needed to be done and how much did they finish from then to now). But, like I said before there is absolutely no way this module could have been finished a month ago or even today. With proper organization the devs should of been able to see that there's no way they could get this done with the original and first delay timeline. Therefore, they should of delayed it for the CORRECT amount of time needed to get this module out for everyone and not say "It'll be done in a month" when they know very well it wouldn't be.

So there it is. I wanted to give my opinion. Now please correct me if I'm wrong in any of this. I didn't create this thread to cause hatred towards the devs. I created this to broaden people's perspectives on this whole situation. To give them all of the details. So once again if I made a mistake in this let me know. I will be glad to make changes if needed. I truly want this game to come out and I still support it. Yes, I support it though I just gave reasons that may say the opposite. Those reasons were to help others. Knowing that already hasn't made me hate the game or the devs, but I want to see proper treatment that we all deserve.

The tasks on the tracker, as it states in top, are only those remaining for the town square release as of last Thursday night. We're talking two full business days. I think the progress has been quite decent, considering.

If we were displaying all tasks completed it would be in the thousands.

@ParatusThank you for replying! That makes it better. But you guys had to have known the amount of work that sat in front of y'all was going to take a lot more than the original time frame or even the first delay. There's no way it took you guys the whole month up to the release date to say "Aye, we're not gonna be able to finish this. Let's push it back". That is something you could track as progress is made months ago. If there were problems arriving up then an extra two weeks should of been added along with the one month to prepare for it. I mean worse case you guys get it done two weeks early and can show off it's features. I just feel that more preparation could of been done to prevent another delay and more upsets.

@creepindThere’s other topics on the forums that can help you. But, I do believe you will like this game once it gets released. Though I’m the one who created this thread I still support the game. Now this game may take 2-3 months more, but it’s up to you if it’ll be worth the wait. I just want the devs to treat us fairly with the actual truth and prepare everything better.

I'm sorry that being positive is so difficult for you, just be patient. You WILL enjoy the game experience better and you will feel really stupid when it comes out very shortly, you WILL not enjoy the game as much and you WILL have a habit of complaining for nothing. The money you donated was a  pledge meaning you committed by a solemn promise to stay positive , encourage the devs and wait for them  developers (a person or thing that develops something) to start and finish a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, part of the game. YOUR lucky that they even let us try out the alpha ;)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do everyone a favor     don't be a stick in the mud and the same goes for the rest of you entitled beelzebubs!!

@killerkate888You talking to me? It feels like you're talking to me so I'll say you're talking to me. lol. You honestly don't know what a pledge means do you? lol. Just because you pledged for something doesn't mean you can't give your opinion about the progress of the game. Especially if it's positive or negative. Like I said you don't have to like it but that's my opinion. Now let's depict your message. Who said being positive is difficult for me? I literally said numerous times that I support the game and hope that it's as good as the devs say it will be. I simply stated what came to mind after looking at the blog about the 2nd delay. Like it or not there's no reason the devs couldn't give themselves 2 months instead of missing yet another deadline. Also you must be new here (account created this year that's why I said that) but delays is nothing new to this game. But after backing it and keeping positive for years it starts getting old. Wait a while and you'll catch the drift. Lastly, gosh excuse me I need to take a breather after writing all of this, just because myself or anyone voices their opinion whether it's negative or not doesn't mean they shouldn't express it. Also you must of got lost when looking up the definition of "pledge" since it's " a solemn promise or undertaking" and no where does it say "to stay positive".

They've crossed the Rubicon for me, so to speak. To not only delay it a second time, but doing it at the last minute and scrapping a release date with a resigned "what more do you want?!" shows a complete disregard.

Baseless positivity hasn't worked so far. Why do people think it's going to be different now they're not even giving us a date? lol

@lamona I agree with you. To do this again after delaying the modules overall, the video, then delaying this Town Square Module twice in a row is just sad. @killerkate888 You came off swinging, lol. Just try to smoothly go into it. We're all friends here. We all want the same thing, Identity to be released. But like @lamona said we all have been nonstop supportive and positive, some of us been here for years. So to get yet another delay and in the manner they did it was like they disregarded all of us. There comes to a point where we all waited long enough and the least we deserve is a gosh dang valid release date. Thanks, you have a nice day too.

This game was supposed to be released July, of 2017.... they have made MILLIONS off pledges, and instead of finding more coders, programmers, graphic design persons, etc. etc... they put the money in their pockets thinking "We can do this!" More than a year ago, I said i didn't trust they would get it done, and got a reply of "I understand your concern about pledging and having no game, but ......." Here we are... a YEAR later, and STILL no game. I just recently pledged, when they said last month it would be out today. Welp, I'm done being positive. Back to PUBG. I think they're using the same coders...

@Casino Exactly my point. We have given them our money with the purpose that'll put it to good use and make sure the game gets done in a fair pace. Year later, we're getting delay after delay. They truly do need to hire more people especially since they raised so much money, and yes they have expenses to pay, but not all of it is taken away.

@killerkate888 lol. It's totally fine. No hard feelings indeed.

Money can't buy everything but I'm sure the million plus dollars they have posted is just the tip of the iceberg. They've technically made enough pay a dozen people 6 figures. The 'small dev team' argument has never been valid. Especially since they have the means to grow it. They've improved on marketing this passed year, so some of the newer backers might not realize how silent they used to be.

I think this game will be great, but I can't sugarcoat how poorly they've handled things in the past. Getting into the gaming industry seems to be a lot easier now that we no longer get paid to test video games. Gamers pay to test games and spend big on withheld content (DLC)

Have some self-respect and allow yourself to receive proper serice

I support this project to the fullest extent and the thought of getting a refund has not even come close to crossing my mind but that definition of pledge is a little bit nonsensical even for me. At this point in time ppl have all the rights to start feeling upset(not saying that I am) because of the lack of communication from the devs and we aren't lucky to be allowed to try the alpha it was something they promised when they asked for our money pledging is a 2 way street never forget that . Im not asking for a full release date but it certainly would not kill them to release a video showing more than what they had in the previous one and hopefully a bit longer as well.

Delays are boring and bad,  No i dont like delays at all, but if it is needed, so be it. We want to enjoy semi complete game without those horrible bugs. So im willing to wait little more for it :)  And if you se stuff from the Bright side, we gamers have been screwed with for a long time, just look at big devs like Ubisoft, how many of their games have been delayed countless times! Have some faith! cheers!

This is supposed to be a beta, Just like any other Beta, the Devs should make it stable, and get the Graphics and UI right, and put the game out. It's the people testing it. Whatever Bugs come, the players can report them for change. It's like that in every game I have messed with. I to Pledged, I did it because this is our Game, it's our world to explore, Our world to make the way we see fit. We support it, it's Ours. So get off the Delaying, get the damn game right, and let us tell you what is right or wrong. I am sure the play base is capable of letting the Devs know, what needs to be done. I am having a hard time trusting any of this. Glad I didn't shell out a good bit of money, and No I won't feel bad at all when it never happens.

I cannot approve of the numerous delays, but I still have faith in this team. It's too late for the company to back out now. I understand everyone's reasons for their own opinion, and I believe both stances are valid. Asylum hasn't been handling this as well as they could have, but I still believe they're trying.

@Order @Rainwalker @Stebenev So I think everyone can agree these delays are  bad and sure if they're needed then by all means do it. But, these devs had a lot of time and a lot of money to get this Module created by now. Therefore, they must of REALLY overestimated their capability of getting things done since this is the 2nd delay for the module since the original release date. For a small team with such a big budget there's no reason they couldn't expand themselves even more (hiring more people that is). By the last month/month and a half  they got $100,000 more donations that could hire two or one very experienced dev. Their reasoning for the delays, if they even have one that's valid, is just an excuse. Having said this I think the game once it's actually released (which can take a very long time) will be a good game and has a lot of potential.

Sigh... Let me try and address some things here for you, @HAWK.

I agree. The delays are bad. But so is spreading misinformation and bullshit. You're not helping anyone, and only hurting the game in the long run.

Delays happens, that's just the unfortunately side effect of game development. Normally, most games aren't as public and open as this one, so you just don't hear about them.

Are you seriously suggesting you know how to develop Identity better than the developers? That you can accurately predict how long each task is gonna take, and magically hire experienced developers for a short-term job, with little pay, who also don't need any time to be thought the inner workings of the game?

At the time of writing this post, they've raised 1,160,841$ USD, according to this source on their official website.

Bringing in more people isn't as easy as 1, 2, 3... And they have a lot of expenses too. Who do you think pays for this forum you're on right on?
Not only the hosting of the forum, but also the forum software costs money. And that's a monthly expense.

And then there's the software they have to pay for, to make this game. The office space they have to rent, their own salaries, and a whole lot of other speculative expenses.

In conclusion, you really have no idea what you're talking about.

Their reasoning for delays are totally valid. It's not just some "excuse" as you seem it to be.

@Paratus even said so himself in this very same thread. They've done thousands of tasks before the Dev Tracker.

You're the one making excuses. Their reasoning for delaying, as disappointing as it is, is the truth. And that's it.
No but's or if's.
